Spotlight on Hosanna Lutheran Childhood Center: Nurturing the Whole Child
This month, we are excited to shine a spotlight on HLCC Preschool (Hosanna Lutheran Childhood Center) in Pataskala, Ohio. For nearly 35 years, HLCC has faithfully served its community with a mission to nurture the whole child through play, exploration, and creativity.
We were blessed to hear from Assistant Administrator Brandy Daniels about the work they do for their children,
“What makes HLCC truly unique is our commitment to supporting the whole child. We offer small class sizes, individualized attention, and developmentally appropriate curriculum that builds foundational skills through play, exploration, and creativity.”
One of the hallmarks of HLCC is their in-house speech and language therapy, a service that sets them apart in their area by making early intervention accessible for families. Looking ahead, HLCC is expanding its offerings to include before- and after-care programs, further supporting working families in their community.
A Year of Innovation
When asked about their proudest achievement this past year, Brandy pointed to the creation of a customized curriculum resource system designed entirely in-house.
“In the past year, our proudest achievement has been designing and launching a customized curriculum resource system to support classroom planning and enrich early learning. Our team created a series of themed kits—organized by topics like seasons, science, and math—that contain reusable, developmentally appropriate materials teachers can easily access and implement.”
This innovative project showcases HLCC’s strong commitment to high-quality early education, sustainable practices, and providing their teaching staff with tools that save time and enrich student learning.
The Value of ELEA Membership
HLCC credits its membership in ELEA as an essential source of support and inspiration.
“Through this collaborative group, we’ve gained valuable insight on current issues and best practices in faith-based education. We do share available benefit with our staff, and participate in the death benefit.”
This connection they’ve found within the ELEA has had tangible impacts on their operations.
“Several of our recent initiatives were directly inspired by the shared knowledge within the ELEA network. The idea to extend our preschool day through a “Lunch Bunch” program came from a discussion on the ELEA message board.”
Membership has also strengthened HLCC’s compliance and sustainability. Through ELEA, the school gained valuable insight into the tax implications of employee discounts and discovered a required tax form they had previously overlooked, helping ensure greater transparency and accountability. In addition, HLCC received financial support for its speech services through the ELEA grant program.
Looking Ahead
HLCC has exciting goals for the upcoming year!
“We’re excited to expand support for families by adding before- and after-care options and adding a lunch bunch and lunch bunch plus extended care for our morning preschool classes.”
Beyond program expansion, the school is actively fundraising and applying for grants to add shade to the playground and install new, safer doors to enhance security.
Students will also soon have a new friend on their learning journey!
“We’re working to introduce a new school mascot that will lead students on themed learning adventures, starting with a ‘SPACE’ theme for the 2025–2026 school year.”
HLCC looks forward to continuing their partnership with ELEA as these goals unfold.
“We see ELEA as a valuable partner in helping us reach these goals by continuing to provide a strong professional network where we can share ideas, ask questions, and learn from other Lutheran schools,”
