Spotlight on Epiphany Early Childhood Center: Celebrating 30 Years of Excellence

Found in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Epiphany Early Childhood Center (EECC) has been a pillar of early childhood education for three decades. Established in 1995 as a ministry of the Lutheran Church, EECC has remained steadfast in its mission to provide high-quality education within an environment of love, faith, and support. When we chatted with the Director, Lisa Nichols, she had this to say:

We offer an excellent, hands-on education that is based on Christian fundamentals. Our special teachers design a play-based, creative classroom that includes school-readiness activities, art, music, and science. We also incorporate exploration into faith development with spiritual activities such as prayers, devotions, chapel, and mission projects. We have continuously maintained a “five-star rating”, which is the highest standard for quality issued by the state of North Carolina.

A Foundation of Faith and Learning

EECC is dedicated to nurturing the mind, body, and soul, recognizing that early childhood is a crucial time for laying a solid foundation for lifelong growth and learning. Every child is seen as unique, and the school prioritizes their development through structured daily routines that encourage discovery, creativity, and social-emotional growth. The youngest learners, starting at 18 months, through the Pre-K 4/5’s program, all benefit from an environment that seamlessly integrates faith and education. Parents play an integral role in reinforcing the values taught at EECC. One parent shared,

“I have always felt that the school strived to meet the individual needs of each one of my children. It has been comforting to drop them off at a place that ‘having fun’ was a top priority. Children are not given unrealistic expectations and are allowed to progress at their own pace!”

A Strong Church Partnership

The church family at Epiphany Lutheran Church has been a constant source of generosity and support for EECC. Pastor Russell Peak and the pastoral team meet with the school family each Wednesday for chapel, helping the children become familiar with prayers, stories, and songs that nurture their budding faith. This strong faith-based foundation creates a comforting and inspiring learning environment for both students and families.

Giving Back to the Community

EECC has instilled a spirit of service in its students through various mission projects that benefit both local and global communities. Some of their recent initiatives include:

  • Collecting food for the local food bank
  • Gathering cleaning supplies for Western NC communities affected by Hurricane Helene
  • Donating fifty comfort bundles (including blankets, toys, and books) to refugee families in Ukraine, sponsored by a family with direct connections to the cause

These projects allow young learners to understand the importance of generosity and compassion while actively contributing to meaningful causes.
